Love it, Jenny! I've yet to get back into a good chore chart system since moving into this new house (it's been 2 months). They have regular chore time but it's just me assigning them what jobs need to be done.

However, I really like your ideas. I've done a variety of things in the past too, and I think variety helps, but like you said, if it takes a lot of effort for Mom to organize, it ain't gonna happen. :)

Re-training is crucial. It helps to write out the steps of the various jobs - like a "clean the sink" card w/ details of what is required. Then a re-training session is made even simpler.

It's also worked well for me to team up a older kid with a younger kid on a job; after a while I can move the older kid on to something else while the younger does the job they've observed.

Thanks for these great ideas - I'm going to look up that chart on Amazon!

What an awesome adventure, Jenny. There is a pop machine right outside my office door. I just taped 4 quarters to it in honor of your birthday week. Everyone should celebrate their birthday like this! I hope to remember this idea when my birthday comes around in March, although I might have to extend it into the following week since I have 50-some acts of kindness to accomplish. Thanks for sharing.

First - sorry for your awful week. But I had to laugh out loud when I read your post. Years ago when my husband was deployed, I decided to go to the bathroom while my children watched TV for a few minutes alone. They were both under 6 years. I came out, literally 4 minutes later, to a trail of long, brown hair all through my house. I cried as my daughter proudly said "I pretty mommy". My son said "Well I didn't do it". (sigh) They are teens now and the hair grew back prettier than ever. I, on the other hand, am on a first name basis with Clairol! Enjoy your kids!!

I'm such a terrible friend! It's been forever since I've been here to catch up on your website. : ( I didn't even know about your new baby! I know I've had a lot on my plate but that's ridiculous! Please forgive me.

It made me feel old when Skylar got engaged...can't believe she (and Courtney) are all grown up now. Should we laugh or cry?

I LOVE Christmas at Plum Creek!!!! I cry every single time when Laura cries about her Pa's time spent making the gift (don't want to be a spoiler and tell what it is :o). I MAKE all my family watch this around Christmas time (they're not as touched as I am usually). It was because of this episode that hubby thought it would be a great idea for all of us to make homemade gifts for Christmas 2010. It was over the top BEST Christmas ever!!! Little stressful for procrastinator's, but still amazing!!!! Yeah! Two posts in the same month! Your hanger issue makes me crazy!!!! I'm nutty about matching hangers ~ not the color so much, but the style a must. No wire hangers (or wooden or store brand plastic :) I watch Hoarder's when I need to feel better about my disorganized house! I doesn't motivate me to DO anything about it but to be thankful I'm not THAT disorganized! Happy Labeling!
